Dara Shifrer and Andrew Marx, the writers and founders of concert-central.com, co-authored a mostly-autobiographical tale called What Do You Say to the DJ? about surviving that time between college and the rest of their lives. For both of them, music was a huge salvation in the sometimes complicated path to adulthood. So it is their story, written as part survival guide and part memoir.

College is over and real life is a work-in-progress, but when do you become an adult? The answer is here in What Do You Say to the DJ?, co-authors Andrew Marx and Dara Shifrer’s poignant and often hilarious guide to surviving the time between the end of college and the I’ve-made-it moment…that never seems to arrive. In an exchange of e-mails, they unravel familiar themes around love, friendship, family and careers. Live music is a constant in their relationship and in their writing. Telling their own stories (and, um, a few others’), they offer a frank and indelicate analysis of the situation. The goals and dreams of these two ordinary young adults reveal an intimate peek into how twenty-somethings feel, think, and survive. Whether you are looking for an answer or haven’t taken the time to figure out the question, the book delivers an honest dialogue about the challenges and fears of going out into the world and finding your way to becoming an adult.
