BIGGER is Better: Anatomy of an Expanded EditionExtended with new material, authors Dara Shifrer and Andrew Marx return with an updated version of their autobiographical book What Do You Say to the DJ? In an exchange of e-mails over three years, the authors target their love lives, friendships, careers and family relationships, offering a frank and indelicate analysis of the situation. Not surprisingly, a good chunk of the story is devoted to romantic entanglements, chronicled with sharp wit and sometimes unflinching frankness. Even if you don’t navigate by the book’s moral compass, you will still find yourself laughing out loud somewhere along the way. What Do You Say to the DJ? delivers an honest dialogue about the challenges and fears of going out into the world on your own and finding your way to becoming an adult. The new edition features more than twenty pages of new story material, as well as introduction by Heather O’Connor, a new cover photographed by Mark Khan, and a new afterword by Marx. Marx and Shifrer began writing collaboratively for the literary magazine, Suedomsa the Magazine in 1997. They are the founders of a concert review website Concert-Central.com. What Do You Say to the DJ? is also the story how the website was created, a tale that underscores how live music inspires them and becomes a foundational link in their friendship. By including parts of their reviews in the book, the reader gains access to two of the liveliest music scenes in the nation (Boston and Austin, hometowns of Marx and Shifrer respectively). Between them, they have reviewed live shows to the tune of an astonishing 500 bands. What Do You Say to the DJ? features interior artwork by Tabitha Worthington. Click here to see more. Praise for What Do You Say to the DJ?“The emails between Dara and Andy had me literally laughing out loud; they were hilarious!” “Opens a window for us to observe this stage of life and gives us the opportunity to laugh at ourselves at the same time” “Consistently funny” |
